King Heidrek is found in the Hervarar saga. It is a loosely-knit collection of folk tales collected together under the rubric of a single character, King Heidrek. The Christopher Tolkien translation is of interest to J. R. R. Tolkien readers as it contains references to the Sword "Tyrfing", a parallel to Túrin Turambar's sword "Anglachel", which is cursed and will not be sheathed until it sheds blood. Several other references to this text can be found in Tolkien's fantasy universe. "Brego" is the name of the Second King of Rohan. "Durin" is used by Tolkien as "Durin the Deathless", one of the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves. "Dwalin" is a variation of "Dvalin" and "Mirkwood" is a variation of "Myrkviðr".
